We all get anxious at times. When the feeling of uneasiness, nervousness, or worrying is uncontrollable, present more often than not, is overwhelming in intensity or when it sneaks up and blindsides us, it may be time to seek treatment.
Anxiety can show up as excessive worry, restlessness, feeling like bad things are going to happen, panic, anger and irritability or having a "short fuse". It may be physical symptoms like shortness of breath, racing heart, muscle tension, digestive issues. Luckily, by identifying triggers and increasing tools for prevention and management of symptoms, it won't stick around forever.
"Stress can be defined as any type of change that causes physical, emotional or psychological strain" (World Health Org.). This whole "living in unprecedented times" era we've been in has most of us experiencing a lot more stress than in the past. Work stress (or lack of work!), relationship strain, parenting challenges, health issues, politics, climate change, loss. All of these and more may contribute to higher stress and decreased wellbeing. Experiencing stress may be unavoidable, but therapy can help you learn new strategies and tools to respond more effectively when it arises.
Sometimes it's obvious to us when we are feeling down, depressed or hopeless. Sometimes people are surprised to learn that these are not the only indications that you might be experiencing depression. It can show up as low energy/fatigue, difficulty with sleep, appetite changes, not wanting to do anything at all, not feeling joy in the things you are doing, numbness. Sometimes it even makes us wish we would disappear or not wake up in the morning. Therapy can help by creating space for identifying the things that are keeping you stuck. Examining these thoughts/beliefs/behaviors/patterns and shifting to more effective ones will allow you to get on the road to where you want to be. Healing from depression happens in community and with connection, and you absolutely do not have to do this alone. Give us a call to see if we are a good fit for support.
